Chicago's famed comedy theater coming to town
In January, the Rockford Education Foundation (REF) will welcome the laughs of Chicago's legendary theater group The Second City.

The Second City - which will celebrate 50 years of satire on Dec. 16 - is taking the stage at 8 p.m. on Jan. 23 at the Rockford High School Fine Arts Center. This special performance will feature some of the best sketches, songs and improvisations from the group's 50-year history.

An evening with The Second City not only provides audiences the opportunity to see stars in the making, but they will also have the chance to see a hilarious and cutting-edge show. According to REF, no topic or subject matter is off limits. If your parents asked you not to speak about it at the dinner table, chances are it will be made fun during The Second City's performance.

The Second City is truly a Chicago landmark and a national treasure and has been a launch pad for generations of comedy superstars. Founded in 1959, their alumni list reads like a who's who of American comedy. It includes: Mike Nichols, Elaine May, Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers, Robert Klein, Peter Boyle, Harold Ramis, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, George Wendt, Martin Short, John Candy, Bonnie Hunt, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Horatio Sanz, Ryan Stiles, Jack McBrayer, Tim Meadows, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Tina Fey and countless others.

Tickets for The Second City cost $35 and may be purchased by calling the REF office at (616) 863-6317.

The Rockford Education Foundation provides resources for increased educational opportunities for people of all ages in the Rockford community. Last year, the REF awarded over $95,000 in grants.
